Mr Peter De Wilde is President of NECSTouR, CEO of Flanders Heritage Agency, and CEO ad interim of VisitFlanders.
In September 2021 he was elected executive vice-president of NECSTouR (the Network of the European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism). Since April 2023 he is the President of this organization.
Since 2022 he is the CEO of the Flanders Heritage Agency.
Since 2009 he is the CEO of the Flemish Government tourism board VISITFLANDERS. He is among the longest standing heads of national tourism agencies in Europe, championing sustainability in tourism on a local, regional and global level. The program “Travel to tomorrow” he launched with VisitFlanders, is at the vanguard of global strategic innovation in tourism.
He studied Romance philology and medieval studies. He also obtained a PhD in literature and philosophy.
He previously worked as university professor on French medieval language and literature; Head of the culture department of the province of Antwerp; Director of the Cabinet of the vice-mayor for Culture and Tourism of the city of Antwerp. He was also chairman of the European Travel Commission (ETC) and member to the board of the WTTC
