Federico Faggin for the First Time at BTO!

We are very proud to anticipate the first big name of the program of the Digital Strategy topic at BTO 2023.

Federico Faggin is perhaps not a name known to all tourism operators but, as always, we at BTO like to propose contaminations of knowledge and excellence.

We invite you to look at the website of his Foundation, his story, the global honors he has received. Among these, in 2009, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest honor awarded by the US government.

We borrow the words used by others to present him: here’s what they say about him.

“His name is linked to one of the most revolutionary inventions in the field of technology: the microprocessor. Federico Faggin is a physicist, inventor and entrepreneur originally from Vicenza and American by adoption, who was awarded by President Barack Obama for his pioneering contributions to technological innovation” [Rai]

“Federico Faggin is the Italian Steve Jobs, an idol, a hero, for all scientists and technology enthusiasts.

He was born in Vicenza and then moved to Silicon Valley; with his inventions, from the microprocessor to the touchscreen, he contributed to shaping the digital present. Faggin has been studying consciousness for thirty years and together with his wife Elvia he created a Foundation for the study of consciousness with a scientific approach”. [Copernicani Association]

“Federico Faggin is one of the most important figures in the development of large-scale, low-cost high-performance semiconductors and microprocessors. He testifies to the importance of the so-called STEM disciplines (Scientific, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), but his figure and his considerations invite us to never separate scientific-technological development from the ethical and social questions that every innovation sets before us and which should guide any future development of the technologies that we consider obvious today” [Giovanni Molari, Rector of the University of Bologna]

“There is no known physical principle that can translate the electrical activity in the brain or in a computer into sensations or feelings”

This quote of his is enough to understand why we have invited him and why he will help us understand the complex relationship between Human and Artificial Intelligence, the topic of BTO 2023 in the highly anticipated panel curated by Professor Rodolfo Baggio, which will see the participation of Faggin, in a discussion with the entrepreneur Stefano Quintarelli, computer scientist, professor of information systems, network services and security, father of SPID (Public Digital identity System) and founder of I.NET – the first Italian professional Internet Provider.

Stefano Quintarelli also has an extraordinary curriculum. He was a member of parliament in the 17th legislature and a member of the European Commission’s High-Level Group of Experts on Artificial Intelligence, president of the Steering Committee of the Agency for Digital Italy, president of the Advisory Group on Advanced Technologies for Trade and Transport for UN-Cefact. He is a member of the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (Usndsn).

He was the founder of the Parliamentary Intergroup for Technological Innovation, the author of the reform of the Digital Administration Code and creator of the Public Digital Identity System (SPID). He chaired the group of experts who drafted, for the first time, “The information society and the future of digital well-being”, a section of the “Global happiness and well-being policy report”.

Certainly, a moment that you must absolutely not miss!

We look forward to seeing you at BTO – Be Travel Onlife to listen to Federico Faggin.
The appointment is in Florence on November 22 and 23, 2023.
